This year’s Munich High End Show seems to have grown steadily in size, and is more exciting than ever! It is the general consensus that Munich is now THE hifi show to attend in Europe, and in time to come, may even challenge the CES as the most important show for high end audio.

My report as usual, is a more focused and in-depth one that concentrates only on the brands that matter to me (and hopefully to you too!). I also have plenty of interesting pictures that should make your mouth water and give new meaning to the term “audio lust”.

My report as usual, is a more focused and in-depth one that concentrates only on the brands that matter to me (and hopefully to you too!). I also have plenty of interesting pictures that should make your mouth water and give new meaning to the term “audio lust”.

In alphabetical order, I start with my favourite speaker brand Avantgarde Acoustic. This time around, they demoed their top-of-the-line TRIO Omega horn speakers with 4 Basshorns and powered by the state-of-the-art One Series of pre and power amps. Operating in Pure Class A and incorporating features like DC battery operation, zero feedback symmetric single-ended push-pull circuit, the electronics are designed to be a perfectly neutral interface between the source and the speakers.

New for this year is their Model 3 integrated amplifier. This new model benefits partly from trickle-down technology derived from the ultra expensive One Series of amplification. It is a Class A/AB low feedback design using a single output transistor per channel.

The sound of the TRIO with Basshorns is simply the most dynamic that I have ever heard! This is the first impression that hits you, then you also realize how effortlessly and fluidly the music flows from those huge horns. Bass was (to be expected) super fast and tight, seeming to start and stop on a dime (as the saying goes). This is one system that can play very loud, very cleanly - you only realize how loud it is when you try to talk and can’t hear yourself!

With music this captivating, it was not surprising that their room continued to draw plenty of crowds throughout the four days, and many music lovers sat for extended periods of time – a clear indication of the non fatiguing nature of the music reproduction.
