Audiophile sonic
quality El-34 amplifier, so called poor man’s 845 amplifier.
This Circuit design was derived from our more expensive (US$3200)
fancy chassis Push and Pull EL-34 amp (like 300b amp). With assistance
from an overseas firm, we sourced a less expensive chassis with
less expensive way to make it. The end result is 97% of the original
amplifier’s performance at less than half of the price. We
have only made a small production run so far, there are 2-3 different
cosmetic design with the same circuit design for this small production.
We may or may not put it into future production, so buy it before
it is all sold.
6U8 tube has two sections: one triode and one
pental tube in one glass enclosure. One 6U8 tube is being used per
channel for input and driver tube for this PP El-34 amplifier. The
benefits are: Simplicity and first class sound, 6U8 is cheap (NOS
can be as low as $1 each over the internet) and NOS is plentiful.
Why use 12ax7 and 12au7 when 6U8 is plentiful (no one wants 6U8
except Sophia Electric amp owners). Total tubes used in this amp
are one pair 6U8 and four El-34 tubes.
35 Watts per channel x 2, Class A power output.
It can drive any speakers for wide range of music. The big deal
is not the power (any push and pull amp can have power), rather
the tonal quality that is unheard of for an amplifier under US$3000.
The liquid mid and highs have surprising grace, which translates
into truly life like presence, clean and articulate without that
solid-state transistor glaze. Super low distortion, big sound stage
much like the 845 tube amps. The performance has pace and rhythm.
This is a true entry-level amplifier to audiophile happiness. It
may be of all the amp that a person wants or needs. It is only slightly
less than that of our 845 single ended amplifier. For this little
price, it is a winner! To listen is to believe.
Team up with a SACD player and a pair of speakers you have a great
sounding system (or second system).
