Description

“The D1-Dual DAC is one of the finest sounding DACs I’ve had the pleasure to live with and listen to.
So natural, so life-like, it leads you directly to the music being played with very little reminder that you are in fact listening through a hi-fi. Stunning.”
Totaldac is the only brand mentioned 4 times in the Audiostream favourite short list.
Michael Lavorgna, AUDIOSTREAM (Stereophile)
“The degree to which it bested what I knew (including APL Hifi, Audio Aero, dCS, EMM Labs, Esoteric, Weiss, Meitner and Zanden) was unexpected.” Srajan Ebaen 6moons review
“BEYOND YOUR IMAGINATION”, Audio Art article (Taiwan) english translation , original chinese version
“…impresses from the first notes with expansive soundstage and bold contours. Tonality is rich and very natural.
Totaldac is the most ‘analogue’ sounding DAC I heard. And by ‘analogue’ I mean vinyl like raw character rather than sweet & round.
If you’re alergic to ‘digital’ sound, this maybe the DAC you’re looking for. Overall score: 9.5/10” Marcin from Jplay
“These d1-server + d1-dual or d1-tube set-ups attained a level for PCM and DSD which I’d not heard before.
After this review, the prize “Grand Frisson 2014″ of Audiophile Magazine is obvious.” Thierry Nkaoua, Audiophile-Magazine and 6moons
“I don’t have firsthand experience of all other super DACs out there but the Totaldac D1-Dual DAC is the best sounding digital playback I’ve had in my home.” Key Kim, Stereo times
“The only DAC listed in “REFERENCE SYSTEM”” MONO&STEREO
“This DAC is now used in our reference system.”, haute fidélié

The d1-digital is a new concept of reclocker. It aims at improving the sound of any transport. It transforms also any 176KHz/24 DAC into a DSD ready DAC.
“With the reclocker, music sounded more refined, more nuanced, and simply more natural.
I also noticed that instruments had a greater sense of tonal richness and density. It also offers real and easy to hear improvements.” Michael Lavorgna, AUDIOSTREAM (Stereophile)
“The d1-server and its reclocker are absolute key points to get something quite magic at the end.” Thierry Nkaoua, Audiophile-Magazine
“the only impression I ever seem to get from totaldac products is pure musical pleasure.
I am sent on a journey through my music, engaged and relaxed with no fatigue or worry.” Sonny Trigg, inearspace
“I must say, this is great !. It is more detailed and everything is natural.
The room’s acoustics are much more here, you just get more the feeling of sitting in a concert hall. This thing is a hit!” Jürgen Saile, HIFIstatement

It is connected to the output of the drive (Chromecast Audio, Sonos, CD player, computer with USB, music server).

The d1-digital uses the same technologies as the d1-dual DAC, especially the asynchronous fifo memory but the analog outputs have been replaced by digital outputs.
So it has multiple digital inputs, a 69bit volume control which can be used or not used and more interesting, it also has an internal clock which strongly attenuates the jitter of any digital source.
So the d1-digital reclocker can be associated to all available drives.
It can also be used as a USB to AES-EBU (or spdif) converter with very high sound quality.
DSD files (DoP standard) are accepted on the USB, spdif and AES-EBU inputs and then resent in DSD DoP format or transformed to pcm 176/24 to the spdif and AES-EBU outputs.

It can de-jitter any digital source to get an unexpected better drive from a computer, a music server or a CD transport.
A USB cable length is limited by the USB official specification, so the distance between a computer and a USB DAC is limited. When a d1-digital reclocker is inserted between the computer and the DAC the AES-EBU cable length is almost non limited, so the computer can be placed far from the DAC.
